Healthy Communities Zine

This is a zine done for my Design 230 paper. It shows what a healthy community is to me and takes a closer look 3 designs for mental health within a community. This design analysis leads me to identify areas of mental health in communities that have design opportunities; and then expressing my own design plan for one of these areas.

Below is my zine, created using InDesign and Procreate, with brief descriptions of the contents of each page.

The Bolt

Design to promote health and wellness

Many people find it hard to get active and stay active consistently so we decided to design an LED lamp that displays how many calories the user has burned in a set time based on a set goal.

The process included lots of brainstorming, research into calories and how others have presented and tracked calorie data, as well as thinking about possible users and how it might benefit and be applied by different types of people.

The Final product seen has three different coloured sections that light up based on how close to reaching the goal the user is. Red means there is around 2/3 of the calorie goal left to burn. Yellow indicated around 1/3 of the calorie goal is left and green shows it is nearly complete. When the goal is reached The Bolt will flash yellow.
